The Canajoharie Central School District will

The new full-day class will begin Jan. 30.

In November, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced the district
was awarded a $150,475 state grant to implement the program.
Canajoharie was one of just 25 districts statewide to receive a
portion of more than $10 million the state set aside to promote
early education in high-need districts, and improve the academic
future for all students.
The district already offers a Universal
Pre-Kindergarten program for 4 year olds and partners with FulMont
to provide Headstart services. Those programs will continue and will
work in conjunction with the new pre-k for 3 three year olds.
“Research shows that children who participate in
high-quality early education programs benefit greatly,”
Superintendent of Schools Deborah Grimshaw said. “Establishing a
pre-k program for 3 year olds will help our students build a better
foundation for success later in life.”
The state funding was awarded to school districts
based on the quality of the application and other factors, including
district and student need, efforts to target the highest need
students, and efforts to maximize total number of children served in
pre-kindergarten programs, the state’s news release said.
