Canajoharie School District launches mobile app

The Canajoharie Central School District has launched a new tool to help keep parents, students, staff and the community up to date with district news and information.

A new, free mobile app is now available for Apple and Android mobile devices (including smartphones and tablets) by searching for “Canajoharie Central School” in the App Store and Google Play.

“The way people communicate has changed greatly in recent years, “Superintendent of Schools Deborah Grimshaw said. “More and more people are getting information on their smartphones and we recognize the need to stay current with today’s trends.”

The app includes mobile-friendly resources such a calendar of events, an athletic schedule, news stories, breakfast and lunch menus, a staff directory, links to Parent Portal and the district’s social media accounts and more. Users can also sign up to received “push notifications” to get important notices and reminders.

The idea for a mobile app was first suggested by focus group participants and survey respondents who took part in a district communications audit in 2015. In recent years, mobile phone visits to the district website, www.canajoharieschools,org, has increased. Approximately 40 percent of the monthly visitors to the site now use a mobile phone. Last redesigned in 2011, the district website is not mobile friendly, however.

“We hope the new app enhances people’s experience and makes information more readily available,” Grimshaw said. “We plan to release a survey to app users at the end of the year to help use guide content.”
