Late in April, Canajoharie High School technology students put the finishing touches on a special kayak they've been working on since December. Teacher Dwayne Heroth called it a rewarding experience to both teach students and honor a late friend.
Three Canajoharie seniors have won the NYS Scholarship for Academic Excellence this year. Genevieve Trahan will receive $1,500 and Kelsey Aldi and Grant Jones will both receive $500. The recipients are determined by using a formula provided by the New York State Education Department.
To be eligible, the high school senior must plan on enrolling in a full-time college and be a resident of the state. Each year, 8,000 scholarships are awarded. Up to 2,000 scholarships of $1,500 and 6,000 scholarships of $500 are awarded to top scholars from registered New York State high schools.
