Sixth grader Samantha Field took first place at
the
Canajoharie
Middle School spelling bee Wednesday night, followed by eighth
grader Saymia Pinder in second place, and sixth grader Madeline
Elliot in third. More than 40 students in grades 6-8 participated.
The final word in the competition: “luxurious.”
“It was the toughest competition we’ve ever had. We had the biggest turn-out and participation we’ve ever had,” said Canajoharie Middle School principal Thomas Sincavage
“It lasted 24 rounds and the most we’ve ever had is about 15. The kids did a fantastic job.”
Emily Cheney, Debra Eckler and Lori Schaffer judged the spelling bee. NBT Bank donated the first place prize - $100 savings bond – and Patriot Federal Bank donated a $50 savings bond for second place. The Canajoharie PTA donated a $25 gift card as the third place prize.
Participation awards were provided by McDonald’s,
Stewarts, and Subway in Palatine Bridge.
