August, 2011
At its Aug. 11 meeting, the Board of Education
adopted the 2011-12 tax rates for the eight municipalities in the
district. Individual tax bills will vary depending on changes in
assessments and equalization rates within the district’s municipalities.
Tax rates for Canajoharie are $30.807 per $1,000 of assessed property
value. The true value tax rate for the district is $18.48, an increase
of $.50 from 2010-11. The tax rates differ among the towns because
properties in different communities are often assessed at varying levels
in relation to full market value. The state assigns each town an
"equalization rate" in an effort to fairly apportion the share of taxes
paid by each town.
Tax bills should be mailed by Labor Day, and are due by September 30
without penalty.
