Voters approve 2017-18 budget; name Chris Fatta to school board

Canajoharie Central School District voters on Tuesday approved a $21,885,850 budget for the 2017-18 school year, 278-172, and elected Chris Fatta to the board of education.

Fatta received 283 votes to Jeff Hill’s 153 votes to serve a five-year term on the board.

The proposed fiscal plan maintains existing programs and services for students, and funds the expansion of prekindergarten for 4-year-olds to a full-day program. Three additional courses — Anatomy and Physiology, Forensics, and Music Technology — would be added at the high school.

The spending plan approved by voters carries a 2.54 increase in spending and a tax levy increase of $106,993, within the district’s tax levy limit of 1.53 percent.

“Thank you to all who voted to support our students and their education,” Superintendent of Schools Deborah Grimshaw said.
