Anderson eclipses 1000 points
Senior Heidi Anderson made Canajoharie sports
history as she scored the 1000th point of her girls high school
basketball career during a game versus Berne-Knox-Westerlo in
Canajoharie on Tuesday, January 8th.
Anderson, who averages over 20 points per game,
needed just 13 to break the mark. But, the B-K-W Bulldogs double
and triple-teamed her throughout the game to keep her from the
basket. She only had 11 points in the waning minutes of the game
and the fans began to wonder if this was not to be night. With
2:47 remaining in the fourth quarter,
she took a pass to the left side, drove baseline and took a
short jumper in a sea of defenders. The ball bounced softly off
the rim and dropped to screams of the crowd.
Officials stopped the game so that girls
basketball coach Marie Stahler and JV girls basketball coach Joe
Fowler could present her with the record-eclipsing ball.
Anderson is the first Canajoharie girl to reach the 1000-point
mark in over 20 years.
