Canajoharie PTA Minutes—August 9, 2005

Greetings
-
Co-President Melissa Balk called the meeting to order at 6:59 pm with nine members in attendance. Brief introductions were given by each member and the Pledge was recited.

Secretary’s Report

Secretary’s report was read and accepted.

Treasurer’s Report
-
Ellen will have updated report for the September meeting. Tia purchased magnets for new members and $1,000 was received from Target for the One Thousand Book Program.

Old Business
-
PTA Workshop: Co-President Bronwyn McCaffrey scheduled to attend “Summer Experience” workshop August 12th to August 14th. Bronwyn will review conference with members at the September meeting.

Picture Committee: Tia to chair committee. Plan to meet with Bruno in late September, will set date at September 13th meeting. Tia will get together with committee members to discuss Life Touch and Adirondack. Scheduled dates for pictures to be taken are Middle School September 28th, Elementary September 29th and 30th, and High School October 3rd.

New Business

Movie Nights: Jackie Tyslza to chair committee. Scheduled movie nights are October 21st, November 18th, and December 16th, all at 7 pm.

Book Fair: Tracy Mead to chair committee with Bronwyn and Melissa as members. Book Fair scheduled to run October 4th thru October 6th. Bronwyn, Melissa and Tracy will set up Book Fair in the Great Room on October 2nd. Tracy will call Scholastic to confirm dates. Tracy will call for volunteers to cover the hours of the book fair.

Enrichment: Committee meets four times per year to plan spending for special programs. Scheduled dates for meetings are October 11th, November 8th, February 14th, and April 11th, all at 6:30 pm. Melissa will call Jan Andrews to find out when to send letters out for requests.

Membership: Tara Mason to chair committee. There was discussion regarding previous bounced check charges. It was decided to continue to accept checks. If instances of bounced checks occur Treasurer Ellen Welch will make call to the individual responsible to reimburse the PTA for fees incurred.

E-mailing Members: There was discussion to add e-mail addresses to the PTA membership form to remind members of meetings and misc. information. Melissa will discuss with committee chair Tara Mason and will discuss at September meeting.

PARP: There was discussion regarding the Parents As Reading Partner Program to include an over the summer reading program. Bronwyn will try to get information regarding this program at the upcoming PTA workshop. This topic will be discussed at the September meeting.

Other Items
-
Open House: Pat Beyer to chair committee. Pat will talk to Carol and Kathy regarding volunteers. Middle School open house is scheduled for September 28th and Elementary Open House is scheduled for October 6th.
Mrs. Nyahay will order cookies and punch.

Target Grant: Tia Eckler and Mrs. Nyahay wrote a request for a grant to Target for the One Thousand Book Program and the request was granted for $1,000. The program is targeted towards parents and children between birth and age 5. The goal is for parents to read their child 1,000 books before they enter Kindergarten. The Palatine Literary Society will be assisting with this program. Other requests will be made to Scholastic, Walmart and the community. Need chair and volunteers to carry out project and logistics. To be discussed at the September meeting. Melissa Balk will approve thank you note to be sent to Target.

Magnets: Tia received the magnets for the new PTA members after much hard work and they will be stored at the school for the open house.

Pat Beyer will talk to Kathy Dopp regarding reminder memos for PTA meetings.
-
Meeting was adjourned at 7:55. Next meeting will be held on September 13, 2005 at 7pm.
