Canajoharie PTA Minutes—March 14, 2006
- Greetings
- Co-President, Melissa Balk, called the meeting to order at 7
pm with sixteen members in attendance. The pledge was recited.
Brief introductions were given by each member.
- Secretary’s Report
- The secretary’s report was read and accepted.
- Treasurer’s Report
- The updated Treasurer’s report was reviewed with updates and
accepted.
- After Prom Party Student Group: A group of High School
students from the SADD committee attended the meeting to highlight
some of the activities and prizes from the post-prom party they
sponsor each year. The grant they have received in past years was
not available to them this year. They are in need of donations to
fund this program. The post-prom party for this year is scheduled
for June 4th. The amount the PTA will donate to this program will
be discussed at next month’s meeting.
- Old Business
- 1,000 Book Kick Off: Melissa reported the program is up and
running. There is an advertisement on the school website for this
program. Melissa will contract Kyle regarding an ad in the local
paper to give the public more awareness of the availability of
this program. Some additional suggestions given as possible sites
for book bags were local doctor and dentist offices.
- Box Tops: Mrs. Monk reported she had sent in $320.40 in box
tops. The check is scheduled to be received the end of April. The
total for this year in box tops is now $730.40.
- PARP: Melissa recognized Tara for her hard work on the
program. The program is running March 13th thru March 24th.
Bronwyn ordered the books for the Pre-K thru Fifth grade students.
A review of this program will be done at the next PTA meeting.
- New Business
- Movie Night: The next scheduled movie night is scheduled for
Friday, March 24th, at 7 pm. Mrs. Nyahay will get the popcorn that
is needed. Melissa will make sure the room and projector are
available for that night. Tara volunteered to assist with the
popcorn machine.
- Fundraising Committee: There was discussion regarding the best
time to hold the PTA fundraiser. It was thought the best time
would be early in the school year. Melissa will contact Paul
Forsey who helped coordinate fundraisers in the past to see if he
could come to the April or May PTA meeting.
- Flyer for Kindergarten Parents: Melissa suggested a packet of
PTA information be put with the Kindergarten information for
parents at the Kindergarten registration scheduled for April 26th,
27th and 28th. Mrs. Nyahay discussed the possibility of a PTA
table for parents to talk with current members and learn more
about the PTA Program. Melissa will gather a power point
presentation to be shown to parents at the registration.
- May 8th PTA Conference: Melissa received information regarding
the Mohawk Valley Regional PTA conference to be held at the
Canajoharie School on May 8th. Tia and Bronwyn will be attending
the conference.
- PTA Ideas: Melissa reviewed ideas from Mrs. O’Connor as
possible future PTA activities. The first was a family dance
night. This could also be used as a PTA fundraiser. Melissa will
check with Mrs. Leverett regarding information on this that was
done in the past. The second was the PTA putting together school
supply packets for different grade levels. The idea was to
purchase supplies in advance to have on hand for parents to
purchase. This idea was tabled for future discussion.
- Teacher Appreciation Day: Teacher Appreciation Day is May 9th.
Tara volunteered to put the teacher’s calendars in the mailboxes
that day. Melissa will order and pay in advance for the bagels to
be purchased from Price Chopper for the teachers. Tia will pick
the bagels up and deliver to the school that day.
- The meeting was adjourned at 8:00 pm. The next meeting is
scheduled for April 11, 2006 at 7 pm.
