Canajoharie PTA Minutes—February 13, 2007

  1. Greetings
    1. President, Melissa Balk, called the meeting to order at 7:20 pm with eleven members in attendance. The pledge was recited.
  2. Secretary’s Report
    1. Secretary, Tracy Mead, read the secretary’s report from the last meeting. There were two corrections noted to the secretary’s report.
  3. Treasurer’s Report
    1. Treasurer, Ellen Welch, reviewed the treasurer’s report with updates. Melissa noted she had received the check from Wal-Mart to be used for the PARP program and she will give the check to Ellen. Melissa made a motion to accept the treasurer’s report and secretary’s report with Scott Tyler seconding the motion. All were in favor.
  4. Old Business
    1. Purchase of Television for Middle School: Melissa obtained estimates from LADD Electronics and Best Buy and after some discussion it was decided to purchase the system from LADD Electronics. It was noted the warranty would still be intact even if LADD did not install the system. The funds for the television will be taken out of special projects account. Melissa will get the information to Ellen to purchase the system.
    2. Box Tops: Mary Monk reported she sent in the last box tops for this school year for a total of $203.80. It was noted the total submitted this year was down $124.00 from last year.
    3. NYS Consumer Protection Board: The presentation from the NYS Consumer Protection Board on identity theft is scheduled for April 18, 2007 at 7:00 pm in the Middle School Great Room. There will be information sent home with students, as the date gets closer. Melissa will contact Cuyle to put information on the website regarding this presentation.
    4. Spring Portraits: There was a discussion regarding spring portraits from Lifetouch. Tia had an interest survey from Belinda at Lifetouch to send home with students but it was decided it was too late in the school year to set up the picture day. An interest survey regarding spring pictures will be sent home to families with their fall 2007 school pictures.
    5. Correspondence: Melissa received a thank you for the PTA support of the sister-to-sister summit.
  5. New Business:
    1. Enrichment Committee: The enrichment committee met at 6:00pm on February 27th and there were $3,722.26 in requests approved. The committee had two requests they felt were not enrichment and discussed these with the PTA members. A request from Paula Hayes, school nurse, for $287.30 was approved and it will be taken from the Student Health Fund. There was a discussion regarding a request from Sherri Buteau, school counselor, for $400 to obtain tutoring services for a student learning English. The request was approved and will be taken from the Special Projects Fund.
    2. Payments: Melissa reported she had received a few bills for recent PTA sponsored activities. These included a bill from the Recorder for advertising and reimbursement for the cookies and the Wal-Mart gift card for the Middle School spelling bee. Melissa also noted the calendars for the teacher’s had arrived and are in the Middle School office.
    3. PARP: This program is scheduled to run the last two weeks of March. Tara Mason, committee chairperson, had contacted Hill Brothers but it was decided it would be too expensive to have them come to the school. Tara has all the activities planned for the PARP Program.
    4. Conference: Melissa reminded members of the Legislation/Education Conference to be held at the Albany Marriott on March 3rd and 4th. Anyone interested in attending this conference should contact Melissa to get the registration form.
    5. Virtual Lobby Day: Melissa reported she had received information regarding a Virtual Lobby Day scheduled for March 22, 2007. Anyone interested in lobbying legislation on pertinent budgetary issues can call, e-mail or fax the information on that day.
  6. The meeting was adjourned at 7:55 pm. The next meeting is scheduled for March 13th at 7pm and the Enrichment Committee is scheduled to meet the same night at 6:00pm.
