Canajoharie PTA Minutes—May 8, 2007

1. Greetings
   1. President, Melissa Balk, called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm with twelve members in attendance. The pledge was recited. 
2. Secretary’s Report
   1. Secretary, Tracy Mead, read the secretary’s report from the last meeting. Tina Hopler made a motion to accept the minutes with Tia Eckler seconding the motion. All were in favor.
3. Treasurer’s Report
   1. Treasurer, Ellen Welch, reviewed the treasurer’s report with updates. Tina Hopler made a motion to accept the report with Tia Eckler seconding the motion. All were in favor.
4. Correspondence
   1. Thank you’s were received from the Sixth Grade Team and Mrs.Duba for the PTA support they received.
5. Project Recovery: Jade from Project Recovery, which is a FEMA grant funded program operated in Montgomery County, gave a brief presentation. This program provides short term counseling, support and referrals at no cost to families affected by the June 2006 flood. Jade shared information with the group regarding the resources and services available to the community.
6. Old Business
   1. Boxtops: Mary Monk reported she had received a check for $205.52 for boxtops that were submitted. She also received an additional $15 from a person in Arizona who chose our school to contribute to from the boxtops website.
   2. Picture Dates: The school pictures days for the fall are scheduled as follows: Elementary – September 27th, High School – October 1st, Middle School – October 2nd. Lifetouch will again be taking the portraits.
   3. Teacher Appreciation Day: Melissa thanked Tina Hopler and Ellen Welch for their help with Teacher Appreciation Day.
   4. NJHS: Melissa thanked Tracy Mead and Pat Beyer for volunteering for the NJHS induction.
7. New Business:
   1. CHS Regional PTA Meeting: The Regional PTA meeting will be help on Wednesday, May 23rd at the Canajoharie High School. There will be many speakers and many topics discussed. There is a $5.00 registration fee and all members were encouraged to attend.
      
      PTA Officers 2007-2008: There will be an induction ceremony at the next PTA meeting for the 2007-2008 PTA officers. Melissa nominated Chris Hopler for Vice-President and Chris accepted the nomination.
      
      August Bookbag Giveaway: The book bag giveaway will be held on August 24th. The volunteers for that day are Tara Mason, Mary Monk, Ellen Welch and Tracy Mead. Scott Tyler had information on another group that may be in need of book bags and he will e-mail the information to Melissa.
   2. Other Items
      1. Principle Nyahay had a request for $984 to purchase the t-shirts for the Kindergarten orientation. Ellen Welch mad a motion to accept the request with Chris Hopler seconding the motion. All were in favor.
      2. Bronwyn McCaffrey passed out the PTA membership forms for the 2007-2008 school year.
      3. Mr. Rose gave a brief presentation on the 2007-2008 school budget. The vote will take place on May 15th from Noon – 9 p.m. Mr. Rose encouraged all members to take part in the voting and share the information from the presentation with other community members.
8. The meeting was adjourned at 7:45 pm. The next meeting is scheduled for June 12th at 7pm.
