Canajoharie PTA Minutes—October 9, 2007
- Lifetouch: A brief presentation on spring portraits was given
by a representative from Lifetouch. She reviewed the various
options available.
- Greetings
- President, Mary Monk, called the meeting to order at 7:20 pm
with fifteen members in attendance. The pledge was recited.
- Secretary’s Report
- Secretary, Tracy Mead, read the secretary’s report from the
last meeting. Kathy Dopp made a motion to accept the minutes
with Ellen Welch seconding the motion. All were in favor.
- Treasurer’s Report
- Treasurer, Ellen Welch, reviewed the treasurer’s report with
updates. The report will be put on file for audit.
- Correspondence
- Thank you’s were received from Mrs. Kornas, Mr.
Heroth and Mr. Pitonza for the PTA support they received.
- Old Business
- Membership: Bronwyn reported she had obtained 152
memberships so far which is slightly higher than last year at
this time. She is still working on 100% teacher participation.
- Reflections: Bronwyn reported she has four High School
teacher’s helping her with the program. Bronwyn expressed the
importance of the students following the exact criteria and
rules for the Reflections Program in order for their entries to
be accepted.
- School Pictures: After a brief discussion Kathy Dopp made a
motion not to have Spring pictures this school year with Chris
Hopler seconding the motion. After a vote the motion was
accepted with 1 opposed and 14 in favor. Tia will contact
Belinda at Lifetouch to discuss some additional options for the
fall pictures next school year.
- Open House: Mary reported the Elementary and Middle School
open houses were successful in obtaining some PTA memberships.
- Book Fair: Tracy Mead reported the Scholastic Book Fair went
well with the PTA profiting $1,641 thanks to all the volunteers
who helped make it successful. Tracy reported there is currently
$110 in voucher money available from last year’s book fair along
with $90 from the current year. After some discussion Kathy Dopp
made a motion to use the $110 and $90 towards the PARP Program
with Ellen Welch seconding the motion. All were in favor.
- PARP: This topic was tabled until the next meeting.
- Boxtops: Mary reported that box tops continue to be
collected.
- New Business:
- Enrichment Committee: Jan Andrews, committee chairperson,
reported the committee had approved $1,934.65 in requests and
tabled $1,600 in requests for the next meeting. One request from
Mr. Vachon for swimming fins in the amount of $378 was thought
by the enrichment committee to be more of a special projects
request than enrichment. Jan made a motion to accept the request
with funds from the special projects category with Bronwyn
seconding the request. All were in favor.
- Movie Nights: Mary reported that Shannon Trembley and Sherry
Suits had volunteered to be chairpersons for the movie nights.
The first movie night is scheduled for October 26th at 7pm with
“Surf’s Up” as the movie and the next movie night is scheduled
for December 7th at 7pm with the movie to be announced. Kathy
Dopp volunteered to assist with getting flyers to families for
this event. Sherry will contact Price Chopper about donating
paper products and punch.
- By-Laws: Mary reported she had received the information on
the by-laws and needed a committee of three to five people. The
committee needs to meet before the November meeting and vote on
the by-laws in December. The volunteers for this committee were
Chris Hopler (chairperson), Ellen Welch, Kathy Dopp and Mary
Monk.
- Convention: Mary reminded members of the annual PTA
convention to be held in Albany from November 16th thru November
18th. Anyone interested in attending can get the information
from Mary.
- The meeting was adjourned at 8:20 pm. The next meeting is
scheduled for November 13th at 7 pm and the Enrichment committee
meeting at 6:30pm.
