Canajoharie launches new Universal Pre-K program for 3 year olds
The Canajoharie Central School District’s new
Universal Pre-Kindergarten program for 3 year olds began Monday,
Jan. 30 at the East Hill Elementary School. To offer the full-day
class, Canajoharie partnered with the Fulmont Community Action
Agency. The teacher is Caitlin Walter, who has worked with FulMont
for the past 9 years. Also in the class is teaching assistant
Richelle Russo and center aid Rebecca Kilmartin. In November, Gov.
Andrew Cuomo announced the district was awarded a $150,475 state
grant to implement the program. Canajoharie was one of just 25
districts statewide to receive a portion of more than $10 million
the state set aside to promote early education in high-need
districts, and improve the academic future for all students.
