There are distinct differences between description, analysis, interpretation, and evaluation.

 

 

Evaluation is the most difficult and complex of all stages of criticism.,  It is based on factors such as craftsmanship, dsign, quality, expressiveness, personal response, originality, and comparison.

Criticism must be objectivel judgments of artworks should be based onrational reasons. 

 

 

The meaning of artworks is accessible through the criticism process.  The knowledge and skills for art criticism are useful in all areas of the art program.

Students will use the four-stage criticism model to make independent, objective judgments about artworks and products of commercial and industrial design.

Students will use appropriate vocabulary to describe the composition of artworks.

Students will analyze how the art elements interact in artworks using the principles of design as guidelines.
