Describing and artwork involves listing the things that individuals can see in the work.

Description should only list fact, not opinions.

Topic: Describing what you see.

A good description provides the basis for the stages of analysis, interpretation, and judgement in art criticism.

Examples:

Students will describe only facts, not opinions, of a piece of artwork

Students will identify objects that may prompt an aesthetic response but that are not artwork.

Students will describe Grant Wood’s American Gothic, including things that can be seen and named.
