Criminal Justice Club to work with Ayres Animal
Shelter
Defending the innocent includes animals
If someone mentions law enforcement, your first
thoughts are likely traffic cops; police chasing down thieves,
drug dealers, and murderers; and high-tech forensic labs
analyzing crime scene samples. But, dogs and cats?
Canajoharie High School's Criminal Justice Club
is working with Ayres Animal Shelter to draw attention to an
often overlooked crime—animal cruelty.
On Sunday, May 18 at 8 a.m.-3 p.m., the club
will sponsor “Animal Awareness Day” at the Ayres shelter in
Sprakers. Throughout the day, club members will volunteer at the
shelter to assist with spring clean-up, planting flowers, and
general maintenance projects. (full

Drama
club to present original works by high school playwrights
The Canajoharie-Fort Plain Drama Club presented three original one-act plays written by Canajoharie High
School high school seniors at Valley Voices IV on May 1-3
onstage at the Arkell Performing Arts Center.
Seniors Sarah Williams, Mary Collins, and Alyssa Summerfield
crafted their works as a part of their Advanced Placement
English class. Teacher Kathy Fatta required each student in the
class to write a play as a regular assignment. Fellow classmates
offered suggestions to improve on the rough drafts. After
several revisions, Mrs. Fatta with help from other high school
staff, selected the three plays. (full

Art Jordan, Manager of the Sharon
Springs Wal-Mart Distribution Center presents junior
Melanie DeLong and high school principal Dr. Donald
Bowden a $2,000 check to support school activities. |
Once again, Wal-Mart has stepped up
in support of our school.
On March
20, Art Jordan, the Manager of the Sharon Springs Wal-Mart
Distribution Center,
presented the students of Canajoharie High School with a
$2,000 community grant. $1500 was given to the school's chapter
of Students Against Destructive Decisions to underwrite the cost
of a Driving Under the Influence simulator to be used at this
year's Post-Prom party. The remaining funds were designated for
Junior Class activities.
Wal-Mart traditionally
supports a wide variety of educational programs and activities
in our district. Each year, they help us recognize an
outstanding teacher under their Teacher of the Year program.
Over the years, they have also generously contributed to SADD
activities including the annual Post-Prom party. Post-Prom
offers students a safe and fun night of games, entertainment,
food, and prizes—a safe alternative to other choices that too
often end in tragedy.
Sixth
grade eats its way through Greece!
If the way to a man's heart
is his stomach and an army marches on its stomach, then why
shouldn't middle school students learn with their stomachs?!?
The entire
sixth grade had a chance to learn a little more about Greece by
testing some Greek food on Friday, March 7. The culinary
sampling was a final exercise in the students' study of Grecian
history and culture in their social studies classes. (full
story and photos)
Board of Education Meeting rescheduled
The Board of Education Meeting originally scheduled for
Thursday, March 13 has been rescheduled to Wednesday, March 19.

Ribbon

cutting ceremony for the grand opening of the Appleton School
Supplies Store. Mayor Melissa Del Ra presided over the event
with fellow Appleton dignitaries Madison Crouse, A.J. Sullivan,
Christopher Yarush, Aiden Dilorenzo, and Jessie Hogan.
Wait! Why would Canajoharie Elementary School students and
parents care about a place called Appleton? Because Appleton is
the name of Mary-Jean Chapple's second-grade classroom
community! (more)
