Ladies and Lords gather for feast For
Canajoharie Middle School sixth graders, it's tradition. Each
spring as the class completes its study of Europe and the feudal
system of the Middle Ages, faculty, staff, and parents join
students to celebrate with a traditional medieval feast. This
year's sixth grade class took their turn at the annual rite on
May 2nd in the East Hill Great Room.
Making the modern surroundings, the room was
filled with banners, model castles and other materials typical
of the Middle Ages. Nearly all of the students and participants
wore medieval dress.
The faculty sat at the head table and the
student subjects of their kingdom seated throughout the dining
hall. With glass held high, King (teacher) Mike Kane officially
announced the beginning of the feast calling for all guests to
enjoy themselves. A staff of parents and school cafeteria
volunteers served up a banquet of possum soup, fresh fruits and
vegetables, hearty bread, chicken legs, and fruit pie all washed
down with pitchers of fruit juice.
