Why I am Proud to be An American
by Mariah Bowler
Proud Americans show love and passion for their
country, just like me! Freedom of speech, actions, thoughts,
beliefs, and many other actions, makes America a great place to
live. We are very unique.
Courage in the past and present wars. Like in
the Revolutionary war, when our first 13 colonies were fighting
for independence from England. When finally we won on July 4th
it was made a national holiday (celebration). Every July 4th
since that day we launch fire-works into the air. This makes me
very proud! Amazing how our country keeps track of all the
important days in history. Who knows what holiday will be next.
Well every morning school children in America
say the pledge of allegiance to remind us of all of our
freedoms! The National Anthem is another great way to go. At all
banquets and other social meetings we sing the anthem. The
Declaration of Independence is to thank too. With out it we
would be completely controlled! Standing at 305 feet this green
monument is the statue of liberty. She shows much independence
to our Country. This statue formally declared independence. Made
in France and shipped here this monument in New York harbor can
be seen from far away. This monument is so important it has its
own island (Elis Island.) You can take a ferry or boat out to
walk inside of her! In her arm she caries the declaration.
Also America is civilized, and loyal. We are a
democracy. A democracy is when u vote for what you want. We vote
for president, senate, and then town mayors and governors. Many
other people are voted for too. Pretty unique right?
A very important man going by the name of Martian Luther King
influenced all Americans. " I had a dream" were the words that
changed the life of all African Americans living in America.
These 4 words have changed many lives. Although when he never
got to see black freedom he made it possible. This makes me very
proud!
Now that we have our freedom we are now fighting
for the freedom of others. In Iraq we are fighting for them so
they can be free. We want them to have the same rights and
privileges. Now that is something to be proud about!
As you can see being an American means much more
than just living in a country named America, it means you live
it and will never want to leave it. It means you will always
liver here and enjoy beign American, and maybe even being part
of history some day!
