Dear Canajoharie families,
The Canajoharie school community received news early this morning of the passing of Michele DeLorenzo, a middle school math teacher, who passed away Tuesday, Sept. 17, following a long-term illness.
“Michele was a caring teacher who was respected by her peers and loved by her students. She will be remembered for her courage and compassion, and she will be greatly missed,” said Nicholas Fitzgerald, Canajoharie Superintendent.
It is very difficult for us to face the death of a teacher. Today, a support team including our school psychologist, social worker, and school counselors was available in our buildings to provide counseling and support to students and staff members. Additional support will be available for the rest of the week and as needed. One-on-one support is available for students and their families as well.
Your child may have questions and worries about this sad news. We have enclosed some guidance that may be helpful to you as you discuss this loss.
On behalf of the entire Canajoharie district, we want to express our heartfelt sympathy to Michele’s family and friends at this difficult time. Please do not hesitate to contact East Hill’s main office at (518) 673-6310, the middle school’s main office at (518) 673-6320, or the high school’s main office at (518) 673-6330 if you have concerns or questions.
Sincerely;
