Dear Members of the Canajoharie CSD Family,
This letter is in reference to the state mask mandate and our district.
As you may be aware, on Sunday, February 27, 2022, Gov. Kathy Hochul declared that the mask mandate for schools will end on Wednesday, March 2. Starting on Wednesday, masks will be optional for faculty, students, staff and visitors. This also includes school transportation. It appears we are now moving from a pandemic to an endemic stage with the virus.
We will be working with the Montgomery County Health Department as we move forward to look at metrics as it relates to cases, positivity rates and hospitalizations. The county will be making any decisions moving forward unless there is another mandate from the state.
We will continue to follow guidelines as it relates to positive cases and isolation and offer testing for any student, faculty, or staff member who requests it. Just a reminder that if your child(ren) is sick please keep them home and evaluate the situation. If they are out for two or more days we will still need a clearance from a doctor or a negative test. We have test kits available if you need them. Please contact your respective school for information. We want to continue to ensure we control any spread moving forward.
I would like to thoroughly thank everyone for their patience and resolve through this pandemic. I am so grateful for your support; You all did whatever it took to keep our students in school and everyone safe. I know many districts had difficult situations with Board of Education meetings, walk-outs and not following the regulations. In regards to Canajoharie that did not occur but instead we stayed the course and followed the plan. Thank you so much!!
Regards,
Dr. Nick Fitzgerald
