The boys track and field team broke three school records and won the team title during the Section II Group 4 track and field championships Thursday at Fonda-Fultonville High School.
Records were broken by Kevin Mazzarella (200 meter dash), Mikey Hartlieb (discus) and Logan Arduini, Louis Hand, Hunter Congdon and Andrew Yacobucci (3200 meter relay).
According to coach Kevin Stuttle, this is the first sectional title for the boys track and field team in Canajoharie’s history.
“This year the team set out to win both the WAC and sectionals after coming home WAC champions and third place at sectionals last year,” Stuttle said. “Throughout the year, the dedication this group showed left no doubt in my mind that we could accomplish that goal.”
The boys team had an 11-0 record in dual meets this season and were Hudson Division champions, Western Athletic Conference overall and league meet champions, in addition to Thursday’s sectional win.
“I am very proud of what this group has accomplished and I know that the community is as well,” Stuttle said.
Outstanding varsity athletes from the 2016-17 school year will be recognized at the annual athletic awards at 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 30.
