Canajoharie voters passed a bus proposition on Tuesday, March 12 by a margin of 90 yes votes to 10 no votes.
The passed proposition allows the district to lease four 66-passenger school buses for five years and a one 60-passenger wheelchair bus for five years.
“We thank our community for the continued support of our transportation program,” said Superintendent Deborah Grimshaw. “By approving our bus leases we are keeping our fleet current, which helps keep our students safe.”
The bus lease will not have an impact on the local tax levy, as it will be paid for out of the district’s Bus Replacement Reserve Fund. The cost of the lease is $17,900 for each bus, for an annual total cost of $71,600 and $20,250 annually for the wheelchair bus.
