Voters in the Canajoharie Central School District approved the annual bus lease referendum March 24 with 69 voting yes and 6 voting no.
This year’s referendum included a proposal to lease two 66-passenger buses and one wheelchair bus, all for five-year terms. The leases on the 66-passenger buses will be set at an annual cost not to exceed $17,500 each. The wheelchair bus lease will be set at an annual cost not to exceed $19,100.
The Friday vote continued the district’s plan to lease rather than purchase buses. The leases would be paid for using the district’s bus replacement fund—without any impact on the local property taxes.
“Thank you to everyone who took the time to vote,” said Superintendent Deborah Grimshaw.
