Kurt Sunderland signed his letter of intent to swim at Drew University in Madison N.J. on Thursday.
Drew University is an NCAA Division II school. Sunderland was recruited by Coach Richard Munson. Sunderland received grants/scholarships and plans to major in French.
Sunderland was joined by his mother, Bethany, father John and brother Sam. Coaches Kevin Stuttle, Phillip Horender, Ken Sullivan and Shirley Hudincia also joined.
During his time at Canajoharie, Sunderland took 7th place in the 400 freestyle relay with fellow swimmers Ella Robinson, Jenna Trembley and Matthew Travis
Dressing up for meet days and always having gym class the same day is something Sunderland will always remember about Canajoharie. .
Sunderland said the most influential person to him is coach Shirley Hudicia.
“She was my first coach and she really built the foundation for the swimmer, athlete and person that I’ve become,” he said.
