Canjo Music Students Excel

Canajoharie Musicians Alis Fruehstorfer, Richard Catarino, and Eden Robinson were selected into the Hartwick Honor Band.

Students from across New York state filled out applications and were given recommendations from teachers to be selected to perform in the Honor Band.  The students selected were given the opportunity to play alongside college musicians working with Dr. Andy Pease and guest conductor Armand Hall for a full day of music making.

Alis Fruehstorfer has additionally become the first Canajoharie musician ever accepted into the NYSSMA Zone 7 Area All State Jazz Ensemble.

“Alis has worked very diligently over the past several years honing her trombone playing and Jazz improvisation skills in order to be accepted into this prestigious ensemble,” Canajoharie Music Teacher Timothy Field said.

In order to be chosen, Alis submitted a video performance of a Trombone Jazz solo and a separate recording of her improvising with a jazz rhythm section.  Students from 9 counties, including Montgomery, Albany, Schenectady, and Saratoga, were selected to perform in a variety of ensembles for the festival which will be held at Saratoga High School on Nov. 18-19.
