Dear Canajoharie Families;
As we approach the end of the 2019-20 school year, we wanted to reach out to you to discuss how final averages will be calculated for students in grades 6-12. The district has previously announced that all students in grades 6-12 will receive 4th quarter grades based on the bands below. Students will receive the highest score in the band where their grade falls.
Content Mastery | Grade Band
- Approaching Learning Standards | 50-64
- Meeting NYS Learning Standards | 65-79
- Exceeding NYS Learning Standards | 80-89
- Mastery of NYS Learning Standards | 90-100
Final Average Calculation
A student’s final overall average will be calculated using the higher of their 3 quarter average OR their 4 quarter average including the grade bands. Please see the examples below.
Student A:
- 1st Quarter | 75
- 2nd Quarter | 75
- 3rd Quarter | 75
- 4th Quarter (Grade Band) | 89 (used in the final calculation)
- Final Average | 78.5
Student B:
- 1st Quarter | 75
- 2nd Quarter | 75
- 3rd Quarter | 75
- 4th Quarter (Grade Band) | 64 (eliminated in the final calculation)
- Final Average | 75
We believe that this practice takes into account the hard work of students, families, and teachers during remote instruction while also not penalizing students for the gaps in access and equity that exist. Thank you for your support, patience, and understanding as we navigate this unprecedented time together. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to your respective building principal with any questions and or concerns.
Hoping for your continued health and safety;
Mr. Bottino & Mr. DePaolo
