Jan. 19 | Member of the School Community Test Positive for COVID-19

January 19, 2021

Dear Canajoharie CSD Community,

On Tuesday, January 19, 2021, the Canajoharie Central School District received confirmation that a member of our high school community has tested positive for COVID-19. Upon receiving the information, district officials immediately contacted the Department of Health.

We have provided the Department of Health with the names and numbers of anyone exposed to the person. All potential exposures have been contacted and NYS contact tracing will follow up. If you have not been contacted then you are not someone who was potentially exposed. Keep in mind that a potential exposure is a precautionary measure and does not mean that someone has or will contract COVID-19.

At this time the high school is permitted to remain open per the Montgomery County Department of Health recommendations. This is permitted because our reopening procedures and protocols limit exposure and the number of individuals being asked to quarantine is low.

This notification is part of our commitment to keeping you informed during these uncertain times. However, privacy laws restrict officials from disclosing or confirming any personally identifiable information. Therefore, we cannot identify by name who has tested positive. We understand that this information will cause consternation for some, and assure you that the safety and well being of our students and staff is our highest priority.

We will continue to keep the community abreast of any changes if the need arises. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Dr. Nick Fitzgerald
Superintendent of Schools
