January 21, 2021
Dear Canajoharie CCSD Family,
We wanted to reach out to everyone regarding an update to the 2nd semester of the 2020-21 school year.
As you are aware, we will be starting the 2nd semester on February 1, and as we have moved through the school year, one thing has become very evident; we want our students back to in-person instruction as much as possible. We all know how much of a burden this is on everyone, and it has been a trying ten months for sure. We have developed a schedule that will increase the frequency of in-person learning for grades 7-12; we are currently working through the details to make this happen. As you can imagine, there are many factors, including transportation, food service, student location, and personnel to deal with to ensure the schedule will work. We continue to evaluate the pandemic’s impact as it relates to cases and community spread, as that is a factor in our decision making as well. We will send out information on a possible shift in the schedule for grades 7-12 by February 2. We hope that we can make this move after the February break. Again, we will be evaluating everything leading up to February 2, and we will let everyone know as of that date.
We will also have two full remote days in February (2/10 and 2/24) and March (3/3 and 3/24). As we have done with the first round of remote days, they are used for students to make up work or speak specifically to their teachers. They are official school days and attendance is taken, and teachers follow up with students with work or any questions or concerns they may have. Any targeted students failing multiple subjects will be contacted individually and be required to attend in-person to provide personalized interventions to foster academic success. As we push into the 2nd half of the year, we want to make sure students pass and give them all of the support they might need.
If you are a full remote student, please let your respective school know if you would like to come back to in-person learning for the 4th quarter by Friday, March 19.
The current schedule will remain the same for the start of the 3rd quarter, and if we adjust, we will send out the new schedule the first week of February. The Cycle Day Calendar for grades 7-12 for February 1 – February 12 is located below.
As we move forward, we would like to thank everyone for their support and help during this unprecedented time. We can only hope that the vaccine will help us return to some normalcy soon. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions. Thank you.
