Member of Middle School community tests positive for COVID-19

Dear Canajoharie CSD Community,

On Wednesday, April 21, 2021, the Canajoharie Central School District received confirmation that a member of our middle school community tested positive for COVID-19. Upon receiving the information, district officials immediately contacted the Department of Health.

We have provided the Department of Health with the names and numbers of anyone exposed to the person. All potential exposures have been contacted and NYS contact tracing will follow up. Keep in mind that a potential exposure is a precautionary measure and does not mean that someone has or will contract COVID-19.

At this time all schools are permitted to remain open per the Montgomery County Department of Health recommendations. This notification is part of our commitment to keeping you informed during these uncertain times. However, privacy laws restrict officials from disclosing or confirming any personally identifiable information. Therefore, we cannot identify by name who has tested positive. We understand that this information will cause consternation for some, and assure you that the safety and well being of our students and staff is our highest priority.

Please make sure that if your child(ren) stays home if they have any symptoms and evaluate each situation. If symptoms persist please contact your physician. Also, if your child(ren) get a COVID-19 test, please contact your respective school as soon as possible. This also refers to any positive test results as well. We will continue to keep the community abreast of any changes if the need arises. Thank you.

Sincerely,
Dr. Nick Fitzgerald
Superintendent of Schools
