On August 16, the NBT Bank in Canajoharie donated 125 supply-filled backpacks to the Canajoharie Central School District as a part of their fundraising “Casual for a Cause” initiative.
NBT Bank employees from Canajoharie and additional Montgomery County branches – about 75 participants in total – made a cash donation every time they wore jeans to work throughout the course of the year that went to the purchase of school supplies. Many employees and vendors donated and shopped for additional supplies for the backpacks.
Canajoharie Central School District’s Superintendent Deborah Grimshaw, East Hill Elementary School Principal Stacy Ward, Canajoharie Middle School Principal Chris DePaolo, East Hill Treasurer and Attendance Clerk Nancy Moyer, and Director of Special Education and Instruction Jen Schwabrow were in attendance to collect the donated bags.
“On behalf of the school district, we’d like to thank the employees of NBT Bank for their generosity. We’ve certainly seen an increase in student need over the past few years, and our students and their families will appreciate this a lot,” Grimshaw stated.
This is the first time NBT Bank branches in Montgomery County raised money for this cause. Their Syracuse branch previously had been successful in a similar donation.
