Petitions are available at the district office for prospective school board candidates.
Canajoharie Central School District residents will be asked to elect one member to the Board of Education during the May 16 budget vote and board election. The seat currently held by Dr. Carol Balfe will be on the ballot for a five-year term commencing July 1, 2017.
Petitions nominating candidates to the Board of Education can be obtained from the district clerk, and are due April 17. Each petition needs to be signed by at least 25 voters of the district, and must state the name and residence of the candidate.
The budget vote and election will be held from noon to 9 p.m. Tuesday, May 16, at Canajoharie High School. A public hearing on the proposed 2017-18 district budget will begin at 6:30 p.m. May 8 in the high school auditorium.
Applications for absentee ballots are available from the district clerk. Completed absentee ballot applications must be returned by May 9 if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter, or the day before the election if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the voter. Completed absentee ballots must be returned to the district clerk by 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 16 (the day of the vote). k
