The varsity baseball team captured the second baseball sectional championship in school history by defeating Lake George 7-6 in exciting fashion.
The second seeded Cougars trailed the ninth seeded Indian 6-4 entering the bottom of the 7th inning. Lead-off hitter Keegan Meyers got the rally started by safely reaching first on a Lake George error on his sharply hit ball to short. Meyers then stole second base and advanced to third on LA Fairley’s grounded out. Chance Petteys drove in Meyers with a single to bring the Cougars to within one run. Richie Tamsett was hit by a pitch and Jack Montanye was walked to load the bases. Zach Suits walked on a full count pitch to push the tying run across the plate. With the score tied and the bases loaded, Riley Montanye hit a sharp ground ball to the shortstop whose throw home was behind the catcher and allowed Tamsett to slide safely into home to give Canjo it’s first sectional title since 2010.
The Cougars finished the season with a record of 15-1 and were also WAC Hudson Division Co-Champions with Galway, whom the Cougars beat in the regular season.
