CANAJOHARIE – On Thursday, Dec. 4, residents in the Canajoharie Central School District approved the district’s $29,655,000 capital project referendum by a vote of 88 to 41.
Careful planning and state aid mean there will be no additional new taxes required to fund this project. It will be funded through state building aid and Capital Reserve Funds. Canajoharie’s aid rate is 91%, so the state covers most of the cost. A combination of reserve funds and retiring debt makes the project tax-neutral for the community. The district plans projects strategically to maximize savings and efficiency.
“I want to express my gratitude to the community for once again supporting our district. It’s reassuring to know that our community recognizes our campus as a central hub. These facilities not only provide students with an excellent education and enriching experiences, but they also serve as spaces the entire community can use and take pride in,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Nick Fitzgerald. “The much-needed maintenance upgrades and additional improvements will help ensure our buildings and facilities remain safe, functional, and accessible for everyone for years to come.”
The work will include:
Masonry and roof repairs
Drainage improvements
Fire alarm replacement
Electrical upgrades
Plumbing upgrades
Boiler upgrades
HVAC upgrades
Parking lot and sidewalk reconstruction
Site improvements
Fencing upgrades
New concession stand with bathrooms
Locker room renovations
New artificial turf
Auditorium seat replacement
Bleacher replacement
Window and door replacement
Cafeteria and classroom renovations
In the coming months, project plans will be finalized by architects. They will then be submitted for approval to the New York State Education Department.
