Proposed 2026-27 school budget: what voters need to know before heading to the polls

Canajoharie Central School District residents will vote on Tuesday, May 19, on a proposed $26,145,135 budget for the 2026–27 school year. The vote will be held from noon to 8 p.m. at the East Hill Elementary Library.

The proposed spending plan represents a 0.33% increase over the current year’s budget. If approved, there would be a 2.50% tax levy increase, which is below the district’s calculated tax levy limit, or tax cap.

Since the tax cap was enacted, the district’s average annual tax levy increase has been 1.85%. Because the proposed levy increase falls below the district’s limit, the budget requires approval by a simple majority (50% plus one) of voters.
